Warrock: Air Defence Guide

STAY ALERT!!!!
Ever since I have been playing Warrock, I have noticed a lot of people having major problems defending themselves against air attacks or evading air attacks... especially when baseraped. Sooo here is a little guide to show the average player ways to defend against aircraft. Here goes :)

1. General hints on how to survive with aircraft in the air :
So, imagine you are on the ground and aircraft are in the air looking out for victims... what do you do? Simple, first, you will have to use your ears. Is there the sound of a plane or helicopter approaching? If so, quickly have a look at your map - is there a friendly aircraft nearby? If not, it is time to take action:

1.1 When you're on foot :
Lie down Immediately and dont move. This may seem trivial or pointless, but keep in mind that the human eye almost immediately recognizes movement, and by lying down and not moving you are a smaller silhouette and arent something the human eye can "catch" in a glimpse. Especially planes are fast, and pilots have little time to pick up targets. It is therefore very likely that their attention will be drawn to something else that may move and is away from you.
Trust me, this simple trick has saved my hide quite often ;)

1.2 When you're in a vehicle :
Your red name gives you away. It is almost as bad as having a big sign above your head that reads in big flashing letters "OMG SHOOT ME PLZ!!!1".
It is generally wisest to not trust your safety in a vehicle, so when youre out in the open, immediately hit F and roll away from your vehicle. Most of the time the plane will NOT be able to react in time and will instead just kill the vehicle whilst you get away unscathed.
Now if you're in an anti-air-vehicle, things are a little different. Especially the Chunma has a definite chance to shoot down any aircraft. The key here is to not stop moving. If you see a plane approaching, you should move orthogonally from it. This will make it harder for them to hit you and will most likely result in a miss if they throw a bomb at you, giving you more time to shoot the escaping plane.

2. How to actually shoot down aircraft :
Ah, the interesting part. Now, how to shoot them down without getting yourselves killed, especially when baseraped?
As a general hint, here are some little known facts about locking on. When youre locked on, you can keep the lock forever, as long as the aircraft does not get out of range. This even holds true when the aircraft takes cover behind hills or other obstacles. As long as you keep it in your field of view, the lock will remain. Also, when a lock is established, the aircraft only gets a warning for about 3-5 seconds, then it vanishes. Use it in conjunction with the lock on through obstacles to catch aircraft by surprise. They will have very little time to react and will most likely be caught off guard and fail at evading. Just be prepared for "OMG NO LOCK HACKER!!!" :p
On the topic of "leading" with lock-on weapons, as suggested by ohsonoob: It is not always wise to lead. Instead, you should try to shoot the missile in a path that is as aligned as possible with the flight path of the aircraft, which means that the missile wont have to move sharply to hit the target, thereby increasing the chance to hit.It is wise to lead, however, when an aircraft is coming at you or flying from you in an angle which is less than, say, 30°, since it will most likely collide with the aircraft on its path.
I do not recommend to lead on an aircraft that is flying in a 30°+ angle to you. The window of opportunity for the missile to hit its target is very small under these circumstances, especially if the angle is rectangular, which will quite likely result in a miss. I had better success with aiming at the aircraft and let the missile correct its path so that it would chase its tail. However, this does not hold true for helicopters for the most part, especially the Blackhawk and the Apache arent maneuverable enough to avoid missiles with their huge hitboxes, so you can basically just fire at them and most likely hit anyway.

2.1 With the Stinger:
Not much to say here. When using the stinger, make sure to only fire it when the aircraft is departing. It will not only increase your chance to hit, but it will also make sure your position isnt found out immediately. Dont shoot stingers at MD500 tho, unless you can hit them without a lock, their hitbox is too small and they are too maneuverable.
If you see a damaged plane however, feel free to shoot it anyway, it will most likely not be able to take a hit from a stinger. In this case you will need to lead your target a little. Try to compensate for its speed and aim ahead of it, thereby increasing your chance to hit.

2.2 With the Chunma / Avenger / Gepard:
Well, I only have a tiny little bit of information here, but one that is very often overlooked, yet vital if you ask me: When you operate one of those vehicles in third person view, you can only elevate to about 55-60°, making it very hard to shoot at dive bombing planes or planes who pull up sharply and escape almost vertically. But when you press V to enter first person, you will be able to elevate to around 75-80°, making it much easier to shoot at high flying aircraft. This is very useful against planes, trust me.

2.3 With the stationary stinger :
The first thing is to stay out of them. There will only be a red name and youre an easy target to shoot. Instead, hide nearby and wait for an aircraft to approach. If an aircraft approaches, let it find its target and shoot at it first. Then, when it is about to pull up and escape, enter the stinger and shoot it. Also, it helps to "pre-aim" the stinger in the general direction in which you expect your target to be at. It should always have 4 missiles ready, so if it does not, just empty it and go away, it will reload in the meantime.

2.4 With the stationary AA gun, the Oerlikon :
Things get interesting now. When you enter the AA gun, there will not be a red name above it. So, if you are baseraped by enemy aircraft, try to be sneaky and enter it when noone is looking. Now, dont move it. Wait for an unsuspecting aircraft to be close. When you are certain that it is a sure kill and, ideally, it isnt looking your way, unleash hell. It might also help to move it in sharp movements when noone is looking to be facing in the general direction where you expect the aircraft to be in order to shoot it. You may feel very exposed and expect to be killed, but, in fact, the Oerlikon has excellent armor and defends you completely (unless a sniper gets your head, but that isnt what this guide is about). Also, it is almost impossible to see if someone is in there unless youre very close.

3. Closing words :
So, this is my guide. I hope it helps a few people in showing the plane / helinubs that they arent as invincible as they think ;) If I have anything to add, I might come back and edit my post. When you have questions, feel free to PM me. I cant promise a fast reply tho.
Have Fun Fellas!!!!!!!!!!!
